Tournament Saturday: My List

So I've got a tournament on Saturday (yep, I read the title too) and I'm thinking about taking a different list than normal for me. Its still mostly mechanized (I'm an addict) but it also plays an interesting reserves game and doesn't use Forgeworld, something that'll make many locals happy.

The Reserves

HQ-
CCS - Astropath and Grenade Launcher x4
Chimera - Multilaser and Heavy Flamer

Elt-
Guardsman Marbo
Stormtroopers x10 - Plasmagun x2 and Plasma Pistol/Bolter

Trp-
Veteran Squad x10 - Plasmagun x3
Chimera - Multilaser and Heavy Flamer
Veteran Squad x10 - Plasmagun x3
Chimera - Multilaser and Heavy Flamer
PCS - Captain Al'rahem and Meltagun x2
Chimera - Multilaser and Heavy Flamer
Infantry Squad - Plasmagun
Chimera - Multilaser and Heavy Flamer
Infantry Squad - Plasmagun
Chimera - Multilaser and Heavy Flamer

Fst-
Vendetta Gunship
Vendetta Gunship

Hvy-
Leman Russ Demolisher
Leman Russ Demolisher
Leman Russ Exterminator - Tri-Heavy Bolter, Heavy Stubber, and Knight-Commander Pask

Battle Plan-
Everything with a special reserve option uses it so I only deploy six vehicles, with Chimeras hiding behind the Russ. Night Fighting (almost guaranteed here) plus cover should keep them safe for a turn or two. Come turn two, in all likelihood, most, if not all, of my reserves will show up. First, the storm troopers will DS into relative safety while maintaining a target. Al'rahem's mechanize platoon will move to support them and capture objectives. Marbo is placed last since he's safe. Vendettas play dog fighter and armor sniper.

I know a lot of people don't like storm troopers, and I see why, but I want to use my classic models plus Al'rahem being, likely, close by helps since he can buff them with Bring It Down (sexy vs. Monstrous Creatures) and Like the Desert Wind. The reserves effectively let me play on two fronts, which works because IG can field enough units that even if one front is totaled then the second can still carry the day since enemies may not have the force concentration to take both, I hope.

What does the internet think?

  1. I have never though of using big Al' in a chimera so thats an interesting idea to me. I am concerned that the outflanking firce wont be enough as you only have a hand ful of special weapons.

Still if you get all your reserves in turn 2 you should dominate the field.

  2. That's my concern as well. I'm hoping that the initial strike, with Marbo, storm troopers, and Al'rahem and Co., are enough, especially since I'm willing to jump out of the Chimera to issue some orders. If the Vendettas also come in, they can give some pew pew as well. I've used a list like this once or twice in the very early days of this edition and it has potential, as long as the dice don't fail you on turn 2.

  3. I did use Al' with Chimera and he did really great, that being said, he has a major problem.
If you played on a 6x4 table with a Dawn of War deployment, your opponent just have to play in the middle to not be bother much by Al'.

So, it depend on your tournament scenario, but in some case, Al' will just do nothing.
    Almost 400pts lost.
Moreover I would put 4 Plasmaguns with Al' as he has a Plasma Pistols.
And put Meltas in the Infantry Chimera.
First, Fire Meltas on Transport then kill passengers with 9 Plasma shots.

About Stormtroopers, If you want to take Plasma Pistol, Take 2!
You can use them both with Gunslinger Rule.
